Social Media Commercials- Our Process

Here at Cairns Film, we help local small businesses make commercials for their social media sites to get their products out there. Plenty of businesses need short videos for social media, for a variety of goals- we can produce some for you too. If you are curious as to what that process looks like, you’ve come to the right place. One company we do this a lot for is Alpacas of Montana- so I’m going to walk you through what our production process looks like for a commercial for them. 

First they come to us with an idea- sometimes just a sliver of one, and other times a fully-thought out plan. This is the pre-production stage. It might be as simple as, “we want footage of the baby alpacas playing together” or it could be more of a story like, “we want people playing basketball in our products while an alpaca walks onto the court and interrupts”. Either way, we are able to take the idea, and discuss with the client how we can make it happen. We can work on one video for you, or plan to do several each month with the help of our social media coordinator. This way we can get footage on one day that can be used to make several different commercials, and then can be posted separately. Once everyone is on the same page about the vision, the end goal, and how to get there, we calculate how much time it should take, and schedule a time and date. Our cinematography crew will travel wherever is needed on production days to get the perfect shots. 

Once we have some footage, it’s on to post-production. Here is where the story comes together, and we can evaluate what we have and how it can best be put together to reach the end goal. In the editing program Davinci Resolve, we can organize the footage, cut it together, color correct it to perfection, and then export it. We like to share it through Vimeo so everyone can give feedback on what they like and what changes they want made. Uploading to Vimeo not only gives our crew a chance to give feedback to each other, but it allows the client to also view the video and give feedback to us, streamlining the post-production process.

Finally, our social media manager can post these videos for you if you would like, on a planned out schedule for maximum engagement with the target audience. Or they can be turned over to you, for you to post on your own time! Either way, you will have a final product you can be confident will help you reach your goals.
